Like and compared to other aspects of growing, I have found the lighting to be the most vauble resource to the indoor grower. Depending on the size of the garden you are going to grow, and your growing rooms space, you are going to need a good lighting system to match. There are flourescent light fixtures that the indoor growers use, but mainly they use these for cloning and seedling stages. For bigger, stronger, healthier and more yeilds in their Marijuana plants, serious growers opt to using high intensity growing light systems. High intensity growing lights are entirly different, then flourescents and other lights you can buy. High intensity growing lights are manufactured to meet the needs of growing plants and foliage. They are designed to match a growing spectrum simular to that of the sun. For the vegative stage of growing Marijuana, experienced growers tend to use a Metal Halide (M.H. blue) light. And for the flowering cycle they use a High Pressure Sodium (H.P.S. orange) light. Also in the flowering stage some growers opt to using a combination of the two lights, both a M.H. and a H.P.S. The sky in nature and thru the coarse of the growing season, does exactly the same things, and this is what the grower trys to duplicate. In the high time of the summer the days are the longest and the sky is filled with much more blue light (ultra violet light). As the season moves to the fall or Autume, the days become much shorter and the sky becomes filled with a oranger hew (infared light). It is this shortening of the days and the increase in the infared light in the sky that causes the Marijuana plants to make its change into its flowering cycle. So the indoor grower will match this by using the two different types of growing lights, in the two different growing cycles. Using the Metal Halide in the vegative stage, and the High Pressure Sodium in the flowering stage. I myself would recommend a very simple and sufficient system to use. With the right amount of space (6x6 to 8x8) I would purchase a 1000 Watt lighting system, with the metal hailide bulb. And as a add-on I would purchase a high pressure sodium conversion bulb, designed for use with your already purchased metal halide lighting system. Thats going to be your biggest hit for growing expenses. Alternativly for your use and for a smaller growing space, you can opt to purchasing a 250 Watt, or 400 Watt lighting system. But to be honest and give you my professinal opinion here, to buy anything weaker then a 400 watt and you are wasting your time. And to be 100 % honest I would recommend always, the 1000 Watt. Waiting time in the growing of Marijuana is not what a grower likes. I get swamped with questions through email asking "how do you get the budds so big". Simply its not a big secret and alot of it lies in the use of 1000 Watt lighting. Any 250 watt or 400 watt garden placed beside a 1000 watt garden is no comparison. Nice plants and floral cluster however can be obtained from these weaker lighting systems, but anything weaker then a 250 watt is clearly a waste of time. With a light in place lets say a 1000 Watt lighting system, we place it over the plants. For the vegative stage we set our lighting timer to a 18 hours light cycle on and a 6 hour light cycle off. This light cycle is adapted for the vegative stage of growing your Marijuana. Some growers set there light cycle to a continuous cycle of 24 hour light. I prefer the 18 hour cycle giving my plants daily a 6 hour rest. The plants are not stressed this way. Your next step once you have made the decision to flower you Marijuana, to yeild of course some nice phatt budds, is to consider the introduction of High Pressure Sodium light or more infared. Flowering your Marijuana plants with your Metal Halide is going to yeild you of course some great budds. But if we switch that bulb with a H.P.S. conversion bulb, and introduce the additional infared light, there will be dramatic and noticible growing and budding results. With this H.P.S. bulb in place are plants flowering yeilds increase in some cases as much as 60%. The overall flowering time is reduced. The T.H.C. resin, and crystal production dramatically increases. These factors alone is what a grower is looking for in the growing of Marijuana. To obtain the maximum amount of highly phycoactive marijuana from their plants, in the shortest time as possible, and using the least amount of plants to do so. I began my own growing days, many moons ago, using a 400 Watt light. Clearly I wasted alot of time compared to when I moved on up to the 1000 Watt. I couldnt believe my own eyes the rapid growth the Marijauna plant could preform under these lights. But not every can afford, or has the space for, a 1000 Watt light. So thusly your alternatives go down the scale through their Wattage use. Many closet Growers use a 250 Watt, and alot of corner growers use the 400 Watts. They will get the job done but still the serious grower will use the 1000 watts, due to its overall productivity. Do not use the 1000 watt lighting for cloning and seeding of Marijuana plants Using high intensity lighting in these delicates stages of growing Marijuana will burn them out. Thus resulting in you losing many, many of your clones, and seedlings sprouting but then followed by death. The intensity is much to high for these young plants and thats where experienced Marijuana growers use the flourescent lighting fixtures. Mostly when bought the flourescents come with the plain cool white bulbs. These cool white bulbs in my opinion are inefficient in the growing of plants. Growers will tend to buy the more better growing tube bulbs designed to fit their flourescent fixtures. These bulbs are also designed and manufactured to meet the plants growing needs. So on a overall look in the breakdown of a master growers room, it would usually consists of the following different types of lighting needed. For there cloning and seeding they use the flourescent lighting fixtures with growing tubes for the bulbs. In their vegative stage they use the Metal Halides. And still in thier flowering stage they introduce the high pressure sodium. With the above mention in mind, and with them being 1000 watt, the above is the best a grower can acheive for lighting of a indoor growing room. That the best you can get straight up, supplying your plants with these different types of lights, in thier different growing stages, will yeild you fast growing, high yeilding, large, luscious, and healthy, Marijuana plants. This will be the most expensive thing for you to get as well but considering what I have seen in my lifetime clearly the only way to go. Growing with weaker systems again I stress, is a waste of time, compared to....
